Under the guidance of new head coach Arne Slot, Liverpool has quickly silenced early doubts among fans following the departure of former manager Jurgen Klopp, who brought the club significant successes including the Premier League and Champions League titles.
However, there is rising concern regarding three key players from Klopp’s era as their contracts are soon to expire.
Currently, Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold are set to become free agents at the end of this season.
This situation raises the possibility that, if not resolved by the end of 2024, other clubs could approach any of these players to negotiate for the 2025/26 season and beyond.
So far, there have been few positive developments regarding contract extensions for these players, but Peter Moore, a former Liverpool executive, remains optimistic and connected to the latest updates.
While attending SoccerEx in Miami, Moore, who was chief executive at Liverpool from 2017 to 2020 under Klopp, shared insights that provided hope for fans.
“I can’t predict the future, but it’s hard to see Trent, Mo, or Virgil leaving Liverpool,” Moore stated.
“The ownership is intensely working on securing contracts with all three. Whether they manage to extend all three contracts, just two, one, or none, remains uncertain.”
“What stands out is their dedication; none of them have taken a game off for any reason. They bring valuable experience to the team.”
“As January approaches, especially regarding Trent’s situation, discussions are ongoing with their agents. However, making these deals won’t be inexpensive.”
He further expressed confidence in Liverpool’s bright future, regardless of the outcomes with these players.
Moore added, “I recently visited, and the atmosphere in the city is very positive. I’m in touch with friends there and I feel optimistic.”
