Governor Aliyu’s Visit to Airstrike Victims

On Wednesday morning, Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State visited two communities that suffered from a military airstrike, which resulted in the death of ten individuals and left many others injured.

Despite the difficult conditions, Governor Aliyu participated in funeral prayers for the victims and announced a ₦20 million donation to help the affected families.

He was joined by Senator Aliyu Wamakko, a prominent figure from the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi.

Governor Aliyu expressed his condolences, describing the incident as unfortunate and empathizing with the community.

He clarified that the military jets had mistakenly targeted innocent civilians while on a mission aimed at eliminating armed groups causing unrest in the area.

“The military jets were involved in an operation against criminal elements threatening the state, but this resulted in the unintentional bombing of innocent community members.”

“We view this as a tragic error, particularly as the military has previously conducted successful operations against many criminal hideouts in our state,” Aliyu remarked.

The governor promised that a comprehensive investigation would be undertaken to ascertain the reasons behind the incident and to prevent future occurrences.

He prayed for the souls of the deceased, seeking divine mercy for them and providing solace to their families.

Along with the monetary assistance, Muhammad Bello Sifawa, Secretary to the State Government, shared that the community would receive 100 bags of various food items to aid those grieving. He also committed to ensuring that the government would cover the medical expenses for those harmed in the airstrike.
