A 46-year-old Uber driver named Muftau Abiodun Musa has tragically taken his own life in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State.
According to reports from Leadership, his suicide seems to stem from struggles with depression and added pressures from family regarding marriage.
Musa, without a spouse or children, had been dealing with depression for five years. The note he left asked those who discovered him to seek more details, stating that relatives could be contacted freely, along with a plea for no tears to be shed for him.
A friend of Musa disclosed that in December 2023, he had previously attempted to hang himself, but neighbors intervened. He also tried to take his own life by consuming insecticide and pesticide, resulting in a two-month hospitalization.
After his hospital stay, he moved to his mother’s home for better supervision. However, ongoing pressure from his family to marry pushed him to leave the house.
According to the friend:
“In his search for a new place, a woman rented him one of her rooms. He had been living there since May 2024.”
His rent was set to expire in December, but he was granted until the end of January before the owner planned to renovate. Three days ago, the person who rented the room informed him to find another place as the owner demanded their departure. Overwhelmed by this news, he succumbed to despair and hanged himself.
Authorities, specifically the Osun State Police Command, are now investigating the situation.
