Sarah Ferguson is recovering from surgery after being diagnosed with breast cancer.
The Duchess of York revealed Sunday that she received the news after a recent mammogram screening.
“She was advised she needed to undergo surgery, which has taken place successfully,” her spokesman told BBC News, adding that the prognosis is good.
The rep said Ferguson, 63, received “the best medical care and … is now recuperating with her family.”
The “Her Heart for a Compass” author reportedly underwent the procedure earlier this week at King Edward VII’s Hospital, a private clinic in London, where the late Queen Elizabeth II and other members of the royal family have received treatment.
She returned home to Windsor over the weekend for her recovery.
Ferguson is expected to address her diagnosis herself in a prerecorded episode of her new podcast called “Tea Talk,” set to be released Monday.
In his statement, the novelist’s spokesman expressed “immense gratitude to all the medical staff who have supported her in recent days.”
The rep added that Ferguson had been “symptom-free” before her screening and “believes her experience underlines the importance of regular screening.”

The duchess, most commonly known by the nickname Fergie, was a member of the British royal family during her marriage to Prince Andrew.
She separated from the Duke of York in 1992. Their divorce was finalized four years later.
The famously close exes, who still live together, share two daughters: Princess Beatrice, 34, and Princess Eugenie, 33.
They are also grandparents of three.
Beatrice is mom to daughter Sienna, 1, with Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, while Eugenie shares son August, 2, and newborn Ernest with Jack Brooksbank.
In recent years, Ferguson has staunchly supported her disgraced ex-husband, who was friends with late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
She most recently made headlines for being left off the guest list for King Charles III’s coronation.
However, she claimed to have not been fussed by the lack of an invitation.
“You can’t have it both ways. You mustn’t sit on the fence. You’re either in or out, but don’t muck around,” she said on “Good Morning Britain” earlier this year.
“I am divorced, and I’m really loving being divorced to my ex-husband — not from my ex-husband, it’s quite a differentiate — and also getting out there as a new novelist.”
