Jennifer Lopez discussed how her parents played a crucial role in motivating her throughout her childhood, as she spoke about her new film, according to the Daily Mail.
In her latest film, the 55-year-old entertainer stars in the inspirational sporting drama “Unstoppable”, portraying Judy Robles, the mother of wrestling champion Anthony Robles, who was born with a disability.
The Empowering Influence of JLo’s Parents
JLo shared how the encouragement of her parents instilled an “unstoppable” mentality in her as a child, as they constantly affirmed that she was capable of achieving anything.
Reflecting on her youth, she stated, “As a child, I participated in athletics. I was driven and eager to achieve, and their voices guided me,” she mentioned in an interview with The Radio Times.
She recalled, “My mother’s voice and my father’s voice echoed in my mind, saying, ‘You can accomplish anything. If your dream is to be the President, you can do that,’ and I truly believed them.”
Discussing her portrayal of Judy, the actress reflected, “I had the opportunity to speak with Judy Robles, the actual person behind my character. She shared her emotions from the moment Anthony first stepped onto the mat, describing how both kids and adults perceived him. Her insights were incredibly valuable,” said the actress.
“When portraying a real individual, which I’ve done multiple times, striking the balance between imitation and truly grasping the individual’s essence is crucial. I maintained extensive notes in a large folder that grew progressively larger,” she noted.
“Judy felt immense guilt over Anthony’s condition. Even today, the reasons for his being born with one leg remain a mystery, a burden she has carried throughout her life,” JLo shared.
Unstoppable tells the inspiring story of wrestler Anthony Robles, who, despite being born with one leg, achieved national champion status in 2011 while representing Arizona State University.
Alongside Jennifer, the film features an impressive cast, including Jharrel Jerome, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, and Don Cheadle.
