90-Year-Old Grandma Sneaks Out Climbing a Gate, Goes Viral

In the footage, an elderly lady with neatly tied back white hair confidently positions a long ladder and scales over the gate, showing remarkable ease. Many viewers suggested that this might not have been her first time attempting such a daring exit.

The clip, first posted by Do Phuong Linh, an 18-year-old from Yen Bai Province, has garnered 4.3 million views, 112,000 likes, and an influx of curious and humorous comments.

Among the most notable comments were: “With moves like that, she must have experience,” “Did she have a plan for getting down after climbing up?” and “I’m curious about how she managed to land safely on the other side!”

Linh stated that the footage was recorded by a family security camera on May 17. The woman in the video is her grandmother, Vu Thi Hat, aged 90.

Mrs. Hat has a big family with 12 children: 11 daughters and one son, and she resides with her son’s family in Van Yen district, Yen Bai province.

Despite her age, Vu Thi Hat remains physically robust, though her mental clarity is not as sharp. Due to her fluctuating memory, the family often secures the front gate when they are away to prevent her from wandering off and getting lost or injured.

“That afternoon, while we were all occupied with school or work, my grandmother decided to climb over the gate using a ladder. She intended to go to church, but after discovering there was no service that day, she opted for a stroll instead,” Linh recounted. “Earlier, she had attempted to use a chair for the climb, but it didn’t succeed, so she switched to a ladder.”

Shortly after, the family realized she had gone missing and began searching for her. They located her after a little over an hour and safely brought her back home.

Linh noted that while her grandmother usually goes out with family, she has previously ventured out on her own.

On one occasion, she got disoriented, leading to a frantic search by family members. Another time, she was struck by a vehicle, resulting in a broken bone that necessitated surgery and a prosthetic to regain mobility.

“We also lock the gate to prevent strangers from disturbing her if she’s home alone, or worse, for her to wander out unsupervised and encounter risks,” Linh added. “Some viewers misinterpreted the video and posted unkind comments. I just aim to clarify what really happened.”

The majority of Mrs. Hat’s children live nearby and take turns caring for her with immense love and attention.

Now at 90, she is blessed with around 100 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. During special occasions, the entire family gathers at her house for celebrations.

“I feel fortunate to have been brought up by my grandmother. She devoted her time to me throughout my childhood, being gentle and always putting her children and grandchildren first,” Linh expressed.
