A Thai police spokesperson, as reported by Thai PBS, indicates that the group of Vietnamese individuals were possibly poisoned, with cyanide being considered among other potential causes. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to their deaths.
The victims are believed to have passed away within a day before their tragic discovery, likely around 1:55 PM on July 15. Notably, the hotel room was found to be locked from the inside when attempts were made by the hotel staff to clean it on the afternoon of July 16. Autopsies are underway to determine what substances the victims might have ingested.
Security footage from the Grand Hyatt Erawan hotel captured activities involving the group. Mrs. Nguyen Thi Phuong and Mr. Pham Thanh Hong were seen with suitcases entering a room on the 5th floor on July 15.
At 2:09 PM, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Phuong Lan was seen entering the room, followed shortly by Mr. Hung Dang Van. The group then left the room, leaving Mrs. Nguyen Thi Phuong Lan inside. Subsequent footage showed various members of the group entering and exiting the room until they eventually stayed inside.
Investigators noted the presence of six glasses with white powder residue, untouched food, and items like tea, energy drinks, and honey in the room. The investigation is ongoing, and more details are expected to emerge as authorities delve deeper into the tragic incident.
