Vietnam’s National Football Team Heads to Singapore for AFF Cup Semifinals
On December 23, the Vietnam national football team departed for Singapore to prepare for the upcoming first leg of the 2024 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Cup semifinals against Singapore.
The team assembled at Noi Bai Airport in Hanoi at 7:00 AM, filled with optimism after topping Group A with three wins and one draw, which secured their place in the semifinals.
Before their match on December 26 at 8:00 PM, they will conduct three training sessions in Singapore to acclimate and finalize their strategies.
The semifinal match will take place at Jalan Besar Stadium, which has an artificial turf where Vietnam and Singapore previously met in the 2022 AFF Cup, resulting in a scoreless draw.
One player who stood out at the airport was Nguyen Xuan Son. The 27-year-old forward shone with his superb performance against Myanmar, where he scored two goals and assisted another, earning the Man of the Match title.
Xuan Son is eager to maintain his form and make significant contributions in the imminent match against Singapore.
Injury news includes goalkeeper Nguyen Filip, who lost his starting spot to Dinh Trieu in the last match. Striker Van Toan, recovering from a ligament injury, will miss both legs of the semifinal but has traveled to Singapore for further treatment.
Under the leadership of Coach Kim Sang Sik, the Vietnam team is looking to capitalize on their current momentum while facing a determined opponent on their home ground.
With high spirits and impressive performances from players like Xuan Son, Vietnam aims to gain an early advantage in the semifinal series.
