Authorities have reported the death of a member from a gang that has been causing unrest in Anambra state. The incident took place on Agulu/Nnobi road, as announced by police spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, on Saturday.

According to Ikenga, on November 29, 2024, around 8:30 PM, officers from the state’s operations department engaged with one of the gang members while accompanying a VIP. They managed to recover various weapons and vehicles during the confrontation, including a pump-action shotgun, five live cartridges, five machetes, two SUV vehicles, and two desert boots.

The gang reportedly launched an unprovoked attack on the VIP’s convoy, prompting the police to respond. The attackers, driving a grey Lexus ES 330 with the plate number ACA 551 MA and an ash Toyota Highlander with the plate SMK 544, faced significant resistance during the encounter.

Ikenga described how a well-coordinated response from a Joint Security Team, which included police and AVG operatives, forced the attackers to abandon their vehicle and flee into nearby bushes, suffering from gunshot wounds.

In addition, the police operatives rescued two individuals who had been kidnapped. Unfortunately, one victim died in the hospital, while the other is currently receiving treatment.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the victims were kidnapped on the morning of November 27, 2024, in the Idemili North Local Government Area. The attackers shot their captives when they noticed they were being pursued by security personnel, ultimately abandoning them in their vehicle.
