Bail Granted to Ooni of Ife’s Ex-Wife and Co-Accused
On January 13, an Oyo State High Court allowed bail for the former wife of the Ooni of Ife, Olori Naomi Silekunola, along with Alhaji Oriyomi Hazmat and Abdulahi Fasasi. Their detention followed a deadly stampede during a funfair on December 18, 2024, which resulted in fatalities.
Justice K. B. Olawoyin from Court 8 made this decision after reviewing a bail application presented by the defendants’ attorneys.
The ruling was scheduled after a hearing on the bail request was held on January 7, where the lawyers represented Silekunola, Hazmat, and Fasasi.
The judge stipulated five conditions for their release, including posting bail of N10 million and providing two sureties with real estate documents within the court’s jurisdiction.
Additional requirements consist of surrendering their international passports to the court and a prohibition on giving interviews throughout the legal proceedings.
