Does This Game of Thrones Reunion Photo Predict a Major Death in Season 7?
Those Stark family reunion photos in Entertainment Weekly were a gift for Game of Thrones fans who’ve been patiently waiting to see the long-lost siblings back together. However, in classic GoT fashion, the happy gathering comes with a downside.
In one EW cover, fans noticed that Arya Stark appears to be carrying the “catspaw” dagger in lieu of her signature sword, Needle.
Redditors pointed out why the weapon is significant: 1) It’s made from Valyrian steel. 2) It’s the same dagger that anonymous hitman used in his attempt to kill Bran in Season 1 when he was comatose. 3) Most importantly, it belongs to Petyr Baelish, a.k.a. Littlefinger.
“There’s only one dagger like this in all of the Seven Kingdoms. It’s mine,” he toldCatelyn Stark in Season 1, when she asked him and Lord Varys where the knife came from.
Perhaps Maisie Williams (who plays Arya in GoT), is merely using the dagger as a prop in the photoshoot. But what if it has a deeper meaning? Reddit userJustACookiecat theorized:
“If Arya now has the dagger, she would have to either steal it from LF [Littlefinger] or kill him and then take it. We see her sneaking around indoors in the trailer and looking under furniture, it is possible she could have found it in Baelish’s room in Winterfell.”
Arya is a sneaky thief, but she’s a swift assassin too. (Remember how she killed Walder Frey last season? Littlefinger could easily be next.) At this point, either option seems viable. We just have to wait for Season 7 to premiere on July 16 to find out what really happens.
