Arrests Made in Illegal Mining Case

Officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have detained two individuals from China along with six Nigerians for their suspected roles in illegal mining operations located in Ogun State’s Ogere region.

According to Dele Oyewale, the arrests took place on May 9, 2025, during a coordinated operation.

The individuals taken into custody have been named as Zhang Hang Lin, Gao Pei Hai, Matthew Mathias, Oluwaseun Amoo, Wasiu Ademola Alao, Ajibola Nurudeen, Ibrahim Yinusa, and Saidu Shuaibu.

Evidence collected includes three trucks filled with bags believed to contain ground lithium powder, along with unidentified mineral samples, a Toyota 4Runner SUV, several mobile phones, suspected low-grade lithium samples, ATM cards, passports, four LED flashlights, and various other items.
