Edo Local Government Chairmen Summoned by EFCC
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has summoned the suspended chairpersons of 18 local governments in Edo State for questioning.
This invitation was communicated through a letter from Abdulkarim Chukkol, the EFCC’s Director of Investigation, which was sent to the State Government Secretary.
In his letter dated December 17, he requested that the chairpersons from several local councils, including Akoko-Edo, Egor, and various Esan constituencies, appear at the EFCC office on Thursday, December 19.
Additionally, the chairpersons of Etsako Central, Etsako East, and Etsako West are also expected to attend on the same day.
Chairmen from Igueben and other local governments, such as Ikpoba Okha and Ovia South West, are scheduled to meet with the commission on Friday, December 20.
The investigation director has requested these officials to bring verified documentation regarding their staff and payroll.
They are also required to provide account information related to salary payments and reserves, including statements from January 1 to the present.
This request is made under Section 38(1);(2) of the EFCC (Establishment) Act, 2004.
It is important to note that the Edo State House of Assembly suspended these chairpersons and their vice chairpersons on December 17 due to allegations of insubordination and misconduct, stemming from their lack of compliance with a financial reporting directive from Governor Monday Okpebholo.
