Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has initiated the second phase of the Livestock Fattening Programme as part of the Kano Agro-Pastoral Development Project, aimed at alleviating poverty and fostering economic independence.
In a statement from his spokesperson, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, it was highlighted that the program focuses on empowering women across all 44 local government areas in the state by providing livestock to enhance entrepreneurial opportunities for vulnerable populations.
During the launch event, Yusuf announced the distribution of 7,158 goats to 2,386 women, with each woman receiving three goats. Upcoming phases are set to include the provision of 1,342 cows and 1,822 rams to women and youth.
The governor reiterated his dedication to combating poverty through innovative and inclusive programs, describing this initiative as essential for empowering both women and youth while encouraging self-sufficiency.
He called on the recipients to manage the livestock wisely, emphasizing the importance of accountability to ensure the program’s success.
“This initiative transcends mere livestock distribution; it aims to build a sustainable economic framework that empowers communities and lessens dependency on government support,” Yusuf remarked.
