Kidnap Victims Successfully Escape in Benue State
In a heartening turn of events, several individuals who were kidnapped have successfully escaped their captors in the Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, Nigeria.
The group of survivors was welcomed on Thursday by Jonathan Modi, the Chairman of Ukum Local Government, in Zaki Biam.
These victims, who hail from Ukum, shared that they were kidnapped on December 27th and faced significant hardships, including prolonged periods without food.
This information was relayed by Samuel Atsua, the Chairman’s Special Assistant on Media & Communications.
Atsua highlighted that Modi expressed significant concern for the victims’ recovery.
The victims have since been brought to a hospital for immediate medical assistance, as their health conditions were quite precarious and needed professional evaluation.
The Chairman called upon the community of Ukum to promote peace and collaborate with the efforts led by Governor Hyacinth Alia and Most Rev. Fr. Isaac Dugu of the Katsina-Ala Diocese.
“It is extremely upsetting that, despite ongoing initiatives for peace, some people still choose to harm their own families and communities.” he stated.
Modi cautioned those engaged in such acts to cease immediately, reminding them that justice—both legal and spiritual—would eventually confront those committed to violence.
He reaffirmed his determination to enhance safety and peace in Ukum, urging the community to unite in combating crime.
