The Federal Government led by Tinubu is appealing to the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) to cease their seven-day warning strike.
The strike was called to advocate for the release of Dr. Ganiyat Popoola, a doctor from Kaduna who was kidnapped in December 2023 and has been held captive for nine months.
Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of State for Health, visited the National Eye Centre in Kaduna on Thursday, August 29, to urge an end to the strike.
Alausa mentioned that the FG is making efforts to secure the release of Dr. Ganiyat Popoola.
The Minister stated that the Federal Government and security agencies are diligently working towards rescuing Popoola despite the frequent changes in the kidnappers’ demands.
He expressed, “We are actively engaged in discussions with the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, concerning this matter.” He also added, “I have had conversations with the Commissioner of Police, and everyone is committed to ensuring her safe return.”
Alausa emphasized the government’s relentless efforts in securing Dr. Popoola’s release and urged the doctors not to prolong the strike, emphasizing the importance of unity and prayer for her safe return.
