Phyna, the winner of BBNaija Season 7, has revealed her decision to disassociate from her family by dropping her surname.
Her comments followed a public admission of familial conflicts.
After her Big Brother Naija victory, her father claimed in an interview that Phyna had neglected her family. In turn, Phyna accused them of placing unrealistic expectations on her.
On her choice to remove her surname, Phyna explained it reflects the truth that her family has never truly accepted her.
She noted that no relatives have contacted her since she made her surname change announcement.
Phyna expressed that she has been managing her life independently for quite some time, so the act of dropping her surname was a way to formalize that independence.
