Tragic Boat Capsize in Borno Claims Four Lives
In a heart-wrenching incident in Borno State, four individuals, including three young children, have lost their lives due to a boat capsizing in the Dikwa Local Government Area. The unfortunate event took place on September 23, around 3:30 PM in the Bakassi community, situated between Mafa and Dikwa on the Maiduguri Road.
According to the police spokesperson, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the victims included a 5-month-old infant.
The Borno State Police Command expressed their condolences, stating: “Our hearts go out to the families affected by this tragic canoe accident.” They reported that the canoe, overloaded with passengers, became submerged in floodwaters, resulting in the demise of four females.
The identified victims are:
1. Ya Mallum Shettima – adult female from Marte LGA
2. Maimuna Akura – age 10
3. Umira Alhaji Bulama – age 6
4. Yagana Bulama Kawu – 5 months old
Medical personnel confirmed their deaths upon arrival at Dikwa General Hospital. The bodies have been released to their families for burial in accordance with Islamic customs.
