A significant fire broke out early Saturday in Ilorin, the capital city of Kwara State, leading to the destruction of a building housing 25 shops.
The Kwara State Fire Service reported that the blaze started around 2:39 AM at the Adeta roundabout.
According to spokesperson Hassan Adekunle, the firefighters encountered a block of shops fully consumed by flames upon their arrival.
“Due to the quick response and courage of the fire service team, only three shops were damaged, including a beverage shop,” he stated.
A preliminary investigation suggested that a power surge was the likely cause of the fire,” the statement added.
The Director of the State Fire Service, Prince John Falade Olumuyiwa, extended his condolences to the shop owners affected and expressed hopes for their quick recovery from losses.
He also reminded the community to always prioritize safety and disconnect electrical devices when not in use.
