Man Arrested for Fatally Beating Young Man Over Alleged Theft in Jigawa

A tea vendor named Abdulrashibu Ya’u was apprehended by Jigawa State Police Command after fatally beating a 20-year-old man, Hassan Garba, whom he accused of stealing his bread, milk, noodles, and petrol.

The spokesperson for the command, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, revealed that Abdulrashibu Ya’u tied up Hassan Garba and repeatedly assaulted him with a stick until he lost consciousness.

Upon investigation, it was found that Abdulrashibu Ya’u had accused the deceased of theft and took matters into his own hands following what he perceived as inaction from the victim’s parents.

The suspect was swiftly arrested by the patrol team and the victim was rushed to Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital for medical treatment, tragically he was declared dead on arrival. The suspect, during questioning, admitted to the assault stating that he was angered by the alleged repeated thefts by the victim.

Neighbors heard the victim’s cries but were unable to intervene until the police arrived at the scene. Following a meticulous investigation, Abdulrashibu Ya’u will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
