On Monday, October 14, 2024, SP Wasiu Abiodun from the Niger State Police Command announced the detention of six individuals implicated in multiple offenses, including thuggery, armed robbery, weapons possession, and drug-related crimes.
According to the spokesperson’s statement, there were reports of unrest and violence in areas such as Fadikpe, Kutirko, and Angwan-Kanawa around October 5, 2024. Groups armed with dangerous weapons were reported to have been attacking the public, prompting a police response that, unfortunately, missed the assailants.
In response, a coordinated sting operation led by ACP Galadima Lassa occurred on October 7, 2024, in the early hours.
The operation successfully apprehended the following suspects: Musa Umar (50) from Kulogbe, supposed youth leader; Sirajo Isyaku (20) from Kutirko; Yusuf Ahmed (18) from Kutirko; Bashir Yahaya (20) from Fadikpe; Shuaibu Mohammed (38) from Fadikpe; and Usman Adamu (21) from Sabon-Titi.
Initial investigations indicated that Musa Umar had been instigating conflict between the youth of Kulogbe and Kutirko, which led to violence.
Umar provided information regarding other suspects, aiding law enforcement in arresting five additional individuals during this operation. Items seized include twenty-five wraps of suspected cannabis, four potentially stolen mobile phones, a knife, a sword, and three sticks.
All suspects are currently being investigated at the Bosso Area Command and will face charges in court. Efforts are ongoing to locate other individuals involved who are still at large.
