The Nigeria Police Force has responded to the threats made by the Lagos State Parks Management Committee Chairman, Musiliu Akinsanya, also known as MC Oluomo, against Igbos in the state ahead of the governorship election. Force spokesman, Adejobi Olumuyiwa, described the threat by MC Oluomo against Igbos as a joke.
A video had surfaced online of MC Oluomo warning Igbos in Lagos State against voting for any other political party than the All Progressives Congress, APC. He said that Igbos who would not vote for the APC should stay at home.
Reacting during an interview on Channels TV, the Force Public Relations Officer said nobody has the right to stop the people of Lagos from voting for the candidate of their choice. He said that MC Oluomo has since debunked his own statement and encouraged Lagosians to go out and vote for the candidate of their choice.
The Commissioner of Police in Lagos has also denounced MC Oluomo’s statement, and it is clear that his threats should be taken as a joke. It is important to note that MC Oluomo is an APC member and this could be why the police are taking his threats and hate speech lightly. He had previously made similar threats during the presidential elections and was not arrested. This raises questions about why he has not been taken into custody this time around.
