A video has emerged showing Nigerian soldiers daring notorious bandit leader, Bello Turji, to cease the killing of innocent civilians and confront them instead.
Bello Turji is known for orchestrating various violent attacks in northern Nigeria.
In the video, the soldiers expressed their frustration at the lack of directives from higher authorities to apprehend Turji and directly challenged him to come out of hiding and confront them.
Delivered primarily in Hausa, one soldier in the video expressed, “Since they have not given us orders to come after you, step out of your hiding place, and let’s confront each other to see what happens.”
The soldiers went on to taunt Turji, questioning his courage: “Bello Turji, if you believe you are brave and a true man, come out and face us.”
They implored Turji to stop harming civilians, saying: “Stop kidnapping and murdering innocent civilians for the sake of Allah; they are blameless.”
The soldiers recounted their past triumphs in battle, recalling their defeat of Boko Haram in Maiduguri, Borno State, stating: “We didn’t know what a soldier or a gun was in the past, and we defeated Boko Haram. Now as soldiers well-versed with firearms, Bello Turji, you are nothing.”
Emphasizing that both sides are armed, they restated their challenge: “You are armed, and so are we. Leave your hideout, and let’s confront each other.”
They concluded with a final provocation, stating that Turji’s attacks on innocent civilians demonstrate his lack of true bravery: “If you are abducting and killing blameless civilians, you lack courage. Cease these actions and come face us.”
