During a press conference on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, in Dutse, Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed T Abdullahi, revealed that a criminal group had been wreaking havoc in Kano and Jigawa States.

The Police Command of Jigawa State successfully dismantled a dangerous kidnapping group, resulting in the deaths of five members and the apprehension of five others, including the gang leader.

CP Ahmed T Abdullahi shared this information during his press conference in Dutse on May 21, 2025, highlighting the gang’s history of terrorizing the regions of Kano and Jigawa.

An 80-year-old woman named Hajiya Hajara, who was abducted in Kano State, was rescued in the operation thanks to collaboration with local vigilante groups and hunters.

“The Command successfully executed a significant operation in the Garki and Sule Tankarkar areas where the gang had been active, driven by thorough intelligence, coordinated raids, and the tireless efforts of our dedicated officers from Gumel, Gagarawa, Gujungu, Sule Tankarka, Garki, and Ringim Divisions, supported by local security forces like hunters and Yanbulala,” stated the Commissioner.

“On the 16th of May, 2025, at approximately 2:00 AM, our intelligence indicated that around twelve armed individuals on five motorcycles raided the home of Hajiya Hajara, who resides in Minjibir LGA in Kano State, forcibly abducting her.”

“Following the intelligence reports pinpointing the suspects’ hideouts near Danzomo and Medi villages in the Sule Tankarkar/Garki LGAs,

“The Police and local security forces conducted extensive searches in the vicinity for the victim’s rescue and apprehension of the criminals. This led to a violent confrontation with the suspects.

“During the clash, five members of the infamous gang were killed, and five individuals were arrested, including the leader, Yahya, a 35-year-old from Katore Fulani, Garki LGA, who sustained an injury during the encounter.

“They are currently in custody and are assisting with investigations.”

“During the operation, the police seized two AK-47 rifles, one multipurpose machine gun, fourteen rounds of live ammunition, two motorcycles believed to be used by the criminals, and three mobile phones that are thought to belong to either the victims or the suspects.

“Most importantly, I am pleased to report that the kidnapped victim was rescued unharmed and has been reunited with her family. A medical check confirms she is in stable health.”
