A 29-year-old man named Heli Hassan has been detained by the Bauchi State Police Command as a suspected vandal.
Authorities seized 95 stolen components of rail tracks during his arrest.
In a statement made by SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil on Thursday, he noted that the information leading to the arrest was provided by the Bauchi Scraps and Wastes Dealers Association.
“The Bauchi State Police Command is dedicated to ensuring the safety of the public. Recently, we apprehended a suspect and recovered 95 stolen pieces of rail track,” the statement mentioned.
“Thanks to the credible tips from the Bauchi Scraps and Wastes Dealers Association, we arrested Heli Hassan, and we recovered 95 rail track components.
“The suspect admitted to collaborating with Jacob Sulaiman, who is currently on the run, to vandalize and steal essential rail components on September 24, 2024, around 11 PM in Inkil quarters, Bauchi.
“This troubling incident endangers public safety and is considered a serious act of economic sabotage, impacting vital infrastructure connecting Inkil to Gombe State.
“The matter has been thoroughly documented for an in-depth investigation, with efforts ongoing to capture Jacob Sulaiman, who is still at large.
“This success reflects the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting public resources and ensuring the safety of its citizens through community collaboration.
