The Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) has commenced the selection process for new Permanent Secretaries to fill existing roles in eight states.

This information was shared in an official memo dated October 7, 2024, which was signed by Didi Walson-Jack, the Head of Civil Service.

The memo specifies that only qualified civil servants from the mentioned states are allowed to apply for these prominent roles, aligning with the Federal Character principle.

It was also noted in the memo that any officials currently undergoing disciplinary actions are prohibited from participating in the recruitment.

This instruction has received the endorsement of President Bola Tinubu, as indicated by the OHCSF.

“In line with the President’s approval, the Office of the Head of Civil Service will start the recruitment of Permanent Secretaries in the Federal Civil Service to address existing and expected vacancies in the specified states, where current Permanent Secretaries have already retired or will retire by December 24, 2024,” the memo remarked.

The eligibility requirements are clearly defined: applicants must be substantive Directors on Salary Grade Level 17 or higher as of January 1, 2022; they must be from the listed states; their records must be current on the IPPIS verification portal; and they should have at least one year of service left by the completion date of the process on November 18, 2024.

The memo also emphasized that “officers undergoing any form of disciplinary action are not eligible to apply,” and stressed that applicants must confirm in writing that they are not being investigated or subjected to any disciplinary measures.
