The meeting highlighted the government’s $1 billion agriculture mechanization initiative, aiming to transform the agriculture sector by establishing 1000 service providers equipped with tractors.
Minister of Agriculture, Abubakar Kyari, announced the approval of the project by the Federal Executive Council (FEC), which aims to provide 2000 tractors annually for the next five years.
Additionally, Saudi Arabia has shown interest in purchasing 200,000 metric tons of red meat and 1 million tonnes of soya from Nigeria, prompting discussions on meeting this demand.
The NEC directed a sub-committee to provide comprehensive recommendations on ending crude oil theft during the next meeting, highlighting the ongoing efforts to combat this issue.
Furthermore, the constitution of the board of the Niger Delta Power Holding was announced, consisting of governors from various states, signifying a step towards effective governance in the sector.
Lastly, the activation of the Presidential food systems coordinating unit, led by Vice President Kashim Shettima, was discussed as part of the broader economic strategies.
