Sydney Egere, the Nigerian comedian and skit creator known as Sydney Talker, has opened up about his troubling childhood marked by feelings of abandonment.

The comedian explained that both his father and mother struggled to accept him, leading to his unstable upbringing.

This revelation came during an appearance on Rasheedat Ajibade’s podcast, Rash4Christ, on Saturday.

He mentioned that his father’s drug use often led to conflicts with his mother. Sydney also shared a poignant detail about his mother’s past, revealing that she had considered aborting him but was advised against it.

Throughout his early years, he lived with nearly all his relatives, hopping between the village and the city until he finally settled with his aunt.

He remarked, “I felt like the unwanted child in my family. I lived with various conditions—wealthy, struggling, from urban to rural settings. Eventually, I ended up with my aunt, and that’s when positive changes began to unfold in my life.

“There was a constant back and forth—my mother would take me to my father, then my father would return me to my mother. It reached a point where my mother realized she needed to embrace my presence.

“My father, being the youngest child in his family, was lost in his drug addiction. Consequently, he didn’t receive much support from anyone back then.

“Honestly, my mother initially had me but, after witnessing my father’s erratic behavior, she opted for an abortion. But a prophecy suggested I would return. That’s how my parents reunited, resulting in my birth.

“When my mother noticed my father slipping back into drugs again, she contemplated another abortion, but my grandmother insisted on raising me. Thus began my journey of living with various family members until my mother decided it was time for me to stay with her. At one point, I lived with my uncle and cousin, essentially moving around everywhere. My experiences were diverse, and I witnessed a variety of situations.”
