In Masvingo, Zimbabwe, an 18-year-old student has been detained after allegedly abducting a 10-year-old boy, Tawana, with intentions of using him in money rituals.
Tawana went missing for three days but was located following a police probe that led to the arrest of the suspect, Peter, who is a Form 4 student at Vision Academy.
During questioning by officers, Peter confessed that he planned to deliver Tawana to clients in Chipinge who wanted the child’s head for rituals.
In a shocking video confession, Peter stated: “I was told to find a head and bring it when I took this child.”
The recording captures the heart-wrenching cries of Tawana’s grandmother, as his mother confronts Peter, demanding to know his intentions. She expressed her disbelief and anger, asking him: “Did you really want to sacrifice my child? What did Tawana do to you? What did we do to deserve this?”
In the same video, Tawana’s mother admonishes her son for ignoring advice against associating with older individuals like Peter, saying: “Tawana, this is what your friend was planning. We always warned you about playing with older people. Look where it led; he wanted to harm you.”
The video leaves a haunting impression, highlighting the community’s fears about child safety and the guardianship of those they trust.
