Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom is mourning the loss of his beloved wife, Patience Eno.
He referred to her as “everything a man could desire in a virtuous woman,” expressing that her absence will be deeply felt throughout his life.
The governor shared that she was not only his prayer partner but also his supporter and an exceptional homemaker.
Just nine days after the untimely passing of the First Lady, he opened up about the heartache of losing his spouse of 38 years.
In a morning address titled, “We Are Perplexed But Not In Despair,” referencing 2 Corinthians 4:8, he expressed his appreciation for the overwhelming support he has received during this difficult time.
Umo said, “Her Excellency, Pastor (Mrs.) Patience (Oluwakemi) Umo Eno, was everything a man could wish for in a virtuous woman. My prayer partner, advisor, biggest supporter, best critic, and homemaker — forever smiling. I will miss her for a lifetime.
He extended his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and all those who reached out, noting the “incredible outpouring of love, support, prayers, and encouraging messages since this unexpected loss has really upheld and strengthened us during this time.”
The governor specifically thanked the people of Akwa Ibom for their remarkable compassion across political lines, especially the youth who decided to pause their planned national protests in tribute to his late wife.
He stated, “My heartfelt thanks go out to everyone from all walks of life who united across party lines to convey their sympathy through prayers, messages, and even by halting campaign activities to honor our First Lady. We are profoundly grateful.
“Rest assured, we will continue to pursue all that was important to her. The Golden Initiative for All (GIFA) and her other projects will not only persist but will be broadened.
“The state will maintain its operations as the government remains committed to serving the people with renewed vigor, in alignment with what Kemi always prayed for.”
“I commend our security forces for ensuring peace during this somber time and encourage them to continue their efforts as we approach the Local Government Elections.”
The governor recognized the public’s respect for his family’s privacy during this time of immense grief and expressed hope that this consideration will continue, stating that “burial arrangements will be communicated publicly at the right time, as we will not grieve as those without hope in Christ Jesus.”
