A horrifying incident has unfolded in Delta State as Comrade Anselm Oyibo, the revered community leader of Obodougwa-Ogume in Ndokwa West Local Government Area, was gruesomely attacked and killed.
Reports reveal that Oyibo, a former head of the Community Development Committee, fell victim to a fatal machete assault followed by being set on fire, along with his motorcycle.
The discovery of his charred remains next to his burnt motorcycle at Obodougwa Ogume Junction along Kwale-Obiaruku Road has sent shockwaves through the community, as they struggle to come to terms with the brutal act.
A source within the community disclosed that Oyibo left his home in Kwale around 11.30 pm following a mysterious phone call and never returned. His absence was noted the next morning, prompting concerns and a subsequent tragic revelation.
“The deceased abruptly left his house late at night, implying a possible visit to his second wife. However, as the day dawned, it became evident that he had not returned, sparking anxieties that turned into grim reality with the news of his murder,” the source shared anonymously.
“After unsuccessful attempts to reach him on his phone, alarming reports surfaced about a fatality in our vicinity involving a fire-consumed body on a motorcycle, which was later confirmed to be him. His vicious killing and subsequent incineration have left the community reeling in disbelief and sorrow. His body has since been moved to the mortuary,” added the source.
The State Police Command spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, acknowledged the tragic event, emphasizing the ongoing investigation to shed light on the circumstances leading to Oyibo’s untimely demise.
