A woman named Michelle Peters, aged 47, has been taken into custody for allegedly poisoning her husband. The incident unfolded after Michelle felt her husband did not show enough gratitude for the grand 50th birthday party she had arranged for him.
The accusation against Michelle suggests that she tainted her husband’s Mountain Dew drink with Round Up weed killer due to his perceived lack of appreciation for the party she had meticulously put together. According to the details from a probable cause affidavit obtained by Law & Crime, Michelle’s husband raised concerns with the Laclede County Sheriff’s Office after suspecting foul play in his beverages.
He reported that the Mountain Dew he consumed tasted strange and led to subsequent illness. Initially dismissing it, he later experienced troubling symptoms such as coughing up unusual mucus, a sore throat, vomiting, and diarrhea, prompting his decision to seek help from authorities.
Upon discovering discrepancies in the taste of Mountain Dew drinks consumed inside versus outside their Missouri residence, the husband reviewed security camera footage. Shockingly, the recordings revealed Michelle tampering with the bottles by mixing Roundup with the soda and then returning the doctored drinks to the fridge.
Concerningly, Michelle’s husband disclosed that she repeatedly sabotaged his beverages with Roundup and even handed over a contaminated bottle along with incriminating footage as a precaution in case of dire consequences.
When confronted about his deteriorating health condition, Michelle callously attributed his symptoms to COVID-19 and advised him to distance himself from their grandchildren. Strikingly, Michelle initially claimed that she was experimenting with a homemade weed killer recipe found on Pinterest but eventually confessed that her actions stemmed from frustration over her husband’s alleged lack of appreciation.
According to police statements referenced in the affidavit, Michelle expressed regret, acknowledging that perhaps divorce would have been a more suitable response to her feelings of discontent post-birthday celebration.
Michelle Peters is currently facing charges of first-degree assault and armed criminal activity. She is detained at the Laclede County Detention Center without bond and is scheduled for a court appearance on July 2. Meanwhile, her husband suspects that the poisoning incident may have been driven by motives like securing his $500,000 life insurance payout or potential infidelity on Michelle’s part.
