On May 31, Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain will clash in Munich for a pivotal UEFA Champions League final—the inaugural match of the tournament’s newly structured format.

Inter, who last claimed the title in 2010 with José Mourinho at the helm, aim for their fourth European trophy.

Conversely, PSG, having invested heavily in assembling a superteam over the past decade, continues to seek their first Champions League trophy.

The two teams reached the final via drastically different semifinal outcomes. Inter pulled off an incredible 7–6 aggregate victory against Barcelona, while PSG effectively seized key opportunities to eliminate Arsenal with a 3–1 win across two legs.

Marco Simone believes Inter’s midfield will be decisive

Simone, a former international player for Italy, believes the depth and organization of the Nerazzurri could be crucial in upcoming matches.

“Inter is a contemporary squad, well-structured, and incredibly effective in their 3-5-2 setup,” Simone mentioned to RMC Sport.

“In comparison to PSG, they possess an added advantage, particularly in terms of physicality. Players like Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Hakan Çalhanoğlu, even in their 30s, are vital to the energy of Inter’s midfield.”

“Moreover, Nicolò Barella, despite his smaller size, is a powerhouse of enthusiasm and drive.”

He also highlighted Inter’s bench strength as a potential factor in matches that go into extra time.

“It’s not solely about the starters. Substitutes maintain the same tactical and physical quality, which can be pivotal if the match lasts longer than 90 minutes.”

“I truly believe Inter has more tools at their disposal for the final compared to PSG. They effectively have two strategic teams today, as evident in Serie A and the Champions League, where they can rotate six, seven, or even eight players.”

“I’m uncertain if PSG would achieve similar outcomes if they attempted the same strategy.”
