Paris Saint-Germain is set to gain a €2 million [$2.25 million] payment after AS Roma had no option but to field Leandro Paredes in a crucial Serie A match against AC Milan on Sunday, marking his 80th appearance for the club. This match triggered a contractual agreement from when he was transferred.
Paredes was brought in from PSG in 2023 for a starting fee of €2.5 million [$2.8 million], as reported by Fabrizio Romano. He had been stuck on 79 appearances since mid-April.
During this time, the Argentine midfielder found himself on the sidelines for five consecutive matches, as sources suggested the team was looking to avoid triggering the €2 million payment to PSG.
However, the strategy collapsed under pressure. Following a disappointing 2-1 loss to Atalanta on May 12, which jeopardized Roma’s chances for the Champions League, head coach Daniele De Rossi, who took over from Jose Mourinho last year, had to make a change.
With i giallorossi in a fierce battle for a top-four finish alongside Juventus, De Rossi opted to reintegrate Paredes into the starting lineup against Milan, recognizing the financial implications, and this decision proved fruitful on the field.

Paredes played a pivotal role in a tightly contested match at the Stadio Olimpico. With the score tied, he almost created a goal with a curling free kick that hit the post in the 58th minute.
