The season has concluded for Marcus Rashford at Aston Villa. The 27-year-old forward joined Villa Park on loan from Manchester United in February for the remainder of the current season.
Aston Villa is set to face Tottenham Hotspur on Friday, May 16, 2025. Ahead of this Premier League match, head coach Unai Emery announced that Rashford will not be available to play.
After sustaining a hamstring injury in April, Rashford has been out of action, missing four games for Aston Villa already.
During his pre-match press conference, Emery updated the media on the team’s injury status, stating (comments via BBC Sport) that Rashford ‘is not able to play next week.’
“Youri (Tielemans) and Marcus are unavailable; (Jacob) Ramsey is suspended, but other players are fit. We’re monitoring their recovery closely. I can’t confirm if the injured players will return next week. Marcus won’t be playing next week, but they’re all in training and feeling better,” Emery shared.
While Emery addressed Rashford’s situation for this week, it raised questions regarding his absence for the following match, even if he manages to recover.

Aston Villa’s last league game of the season is against Manchester United on May 25 at Old Trafford.
Due to Premier League loan rules, a player on loan is not permitted to compete against their parent club, which means Rashford will miss the match next Sunday.
Is this the end of Marcus Rashford’s time at Aston Villa?
Rashford joined Aston Villa after falling out of favor with Manchester United’s head coach, Ruben Amorim. The forward faced substantial criticism for his lackluster performance with the Red Devils this season, scoring seven goals and recording three assists in 24 matches.
However, his form improved at Villa Park, netting four goals and delivering six assists in 17 games. He expressed a desire for a new challenge, hinting at a potential departure from Manchester United.
Although Rashford’s notable loan at Aston Villa is concluding, there is speculation about whether this could be his farewell to the club. His loan agreement reportedly includes an option for a permanent transfer to Villa Park for around £40 million.
As of now, there has been no formal communication from either the clubs or the player regarding Rashford’s future. It remains uncertain if he will head back to Old Trafford at the end of the season or make a permanent switch to Aston Villa, marking the end of his ten-year tenure with the Red Devils.
