While this year’s spending hasn’t matched 2023 figures, many big-name players are linked to transfers to the Pro League. The transfer window remains open well into August, providing an opportunity for significant deals even after most Premier League clubs have finished their business.

The current transfer window for the Saudi Pro League opened on July 17, 2024, and is set to close on October 6, 2024. This allows Saudi clubs over a month after the Premier League deadline to make signings, posing challenges as European clubs may be reluctant to sell players without securing replacements.
Potential Big-Name Transfers to Saudi Arabia
Predicting transfers to Saudi Arabia is complex, but several moves are speculated to happen soon. Brentford striker Ivan Toney is linked to the Pro League, with Al Ahli reportedly negotiating a deal, though Chelsea has shown interest in signing him.
Kieran Trippier, previously linked to a Saudi move, could be a target again as he lost his starting spot at Newcastle United. Similarly, if no agreement is reached between Manchester City and Barcelona, Joao Cancelo may move to a Pro League club. Napoli striker Victor Osimhen might consider the attractive wages if his desired move to Chelsea falls through.
Saudi Clubs’ 2024 Spending Overview
After substantial spending in 2022 and 2023, totaling over €700 million ($780m), Saudi club expenses have been more restrained in 2024. By August 26, Al Ittihad was the top spender among Saudi Pro League clubs, investing around €97m ($108m), primarily on signing Moussa Diaby from Aston Villa. The league’s total expenditure, according to Transfermarkt, is approximately €196m ($219m). In comparison, Premier League clubs spent around €1.98 billion ($2.2 billion) by then, with Chelsea outspending all Saudi Pro League clubs combined.
