Fire Incident at Kwara State High Court

On Sunday night, a fire broke out at the High Court Complex in Ilorin, Kwara State, resulting in significant damage to Courtroom No. 10.

The fire ignited at approximately 8:02 PM due to an electrical surge, as reported by the State Fire Service.

The incident caused the destruction of several items, including two air conditioners, a plasma television, a fan, various documents, and furniture stored in the courtroom.

According to spokesperson Hassan Adekunle, the swift action from firefighters played a crucial role in preventing the flames from spreading to nearby buildings.

“On September 29, 2024, around 08:02 PM, the Kwara State Fire Service quickly responded to the fire outbreak at the High Court in Ilorin, dispatching a fire truck and its crew without delay,” stated Adekunle.

“When our team arrived, Courtroom No. 10 was already in flames and at risk of affecting adjacent areas. The firefighters acted quickly to contain the fire, effectively safeguarding the rest of the High Court from extensive damage,” he continued.

“Investigations indicated that the fire was triggered by a standing air conditioner due to a power surge,” the statement clarified.

During the incident, the special adviser to the state governor on Special Duties, AbdulRazaq Jiddah, alongside the chief judge, Justice Abiodun Adebara, praised the firefighters for their rapid response.
