Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to decide on his future with Al Nassr early in 2025.
The football superstar, who will turn 40 in February, is nearing the end of his contract with the Saudi Pro League team, which expires after the 2024/25 season, and there hasn’t been any definitive news on a contract extension.
It has been reported that Al Nassr is open to offering Ronaldo an additional year to support his ambition of playing for Portugal in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Despite the club’s willingness to extend, Ronaldo is reportedly unhappy with the team’s performance this season, currently trailing league leaders Al Hilal by six points after nine matches.
Al Hilal won the 2023/24 Saudi Pro League title, finishing 14 points ahead of Al Nassr. Consequently, there are claims that Ronaldo is contemplating a move to Al Hilal, potentially filling the gap left by his former competitor Neymar Jr.
In a possible chase for Ronaldo, Al Hilal may look to end Neymar’s contract prematurely in early 2025, despite his recent return from an injury.
The Brazilian forward has been recovering from a knee surgery that kept him out for over a year, but reports suggest the club is dissatisfied with his conduct and performance, with rumors about a return to his former club Santos.
Neymar’s deal at Al Hilal is similar to Ronaldo’s at Al Nassr, but Neymar’s contract could be terminated six months early, which would help alleviate salary costs.
While a January transfer for Ronaldo is unlikely, regardless of Neymar’s situation, if Al Nassr fails to secure the title once again, Ronaldo might consider a move to enhance his chances of winning a major title in the region.
