Rodri, a key player for Manchester City, has expressed his disappointment regarding Real Madrid’s absence from the recent Ballon d’Or ceremony.
The midfielder, who took home the prestigious award in October, criticized the Spanish club’s response and ruled out any future transfer to the Bernabeu.
Rodri’s victory came as a surprise to many since Vinicius Junior of Real Madrid was considered a favorite for the accolade. Nonetheless, Manchester City proudly celebrated Rodri’s achievement, affirming his status among the elite in football.
While he celebrated his win, Rodri pointed out Madrid’s choice not to attend the ceremony, deeming it disrespectful.
“I cannot respect their decision,” Rodri stated. “In both sport and life, it’s not solely about winning — it’s about how one handles losing.”
“They chose not to be present, yet for me, the focus was on celebrating with my club, family, and supporters.”
Rodri’s Comments on Pep Guardiola Amidst City’s Difficulties
Rodri also spoke on Manchester City’s recent challenges.
The player has been dealing with a long-term ACL injury, creating a significant gap in Guardiola’s lineup.
As City faced five consecutive losses, raising doubts about their Champions League prospects, Rodri lauded Guardiola for his unwavering dedication.
“Pep is extraordinary,” he remarked. “He doesn’t need to prove anything, but he motivates us every day. That’s why I’m glad he’s extending his stay.”
Guardiola recently signed a two-year contract extension, providing a much-needed morale boost during a tough season.
Rodri acknowledged his manager’s influence on his career and his role in uplifting the team during challenging moments.
Regarding his recovery, Rodri suggested a potential return before the season concludes.
“I’m concentrating on my rehabilitation,” he shared. “If everything progresses well, I aim to assist the team in crucial moments.”
