Italian Film Festival 2024 Kicks Off
The 2024 Italian Film Festival (IFF 2024) recently launched, with collaboration from the Consulate General of Italy in Ho Chi Minh City and the Asian Film Festival in Rome, drawing in numerous filmmakers and cinema enthusiasts.
This festival aims to familiarize Vietnamese audiences with Italian culture through a showcase of prominent films. Additionally, it serves as a platform for actors, filmmakers, and industry professionals from both countries to connect and share their cinematic passion.
Enhancing Awareness of Italian Cinema
People’s Artist, Director Dao Ba Son, noted that Italian cinema is largely unknown to many in Vietnam, despite the country’s notable talents in the neorealism genre.
The festival’s key objective is to provide Vietnamese filmmakers with insights into pioneering global cinema trends and techniques.
The Evolving Landscape of Vietnamese Cinema
With years of experience judging film festivals, Son remarked that both low-budget and high-budget productions have significantly enriched Vietnam’s cinema landscape over the years.
“In the past decade, we’ve witnessed remarkable works. Besides commercial successes, there are also films that thoughtfully explore the human experience,” he expressed.
The Role of Young Creatives
Son highlighted that the future of Vietnam’s cinema hinges on the emergence of new directors, producers, and investors. Their artistic insights and standards could drive market growth.
The Importance of Quality Screenplays
He stressed the critical need for strong film scripts, as these are vital for a film’s success. “Both Vietnam and the global cinema scene face a shortage of quality screenplays, often necessitating script purchases from countries like South Korea and China,” he mentioned.
Infusing Vietnamese Spirit into Films
Son emphasized the significance of creativity in film-making, encouraging distinctive dialogue, context, and language that resonate with Vietnamese culture.
“The goal should be to create films that distinctly feel Vietnamese to the audience,” he concluded.
