The Ministry of Education and Training has announced that all eight Vietnamese students participating in the 2025 Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO) held in Saudi Arabia received medals. The team achieved a remarkable haul of 3 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze medals.
The ministry highlighted the outstanding performance of Vietnam’s national team at the 25th APhO, which took place from May 4 to 12 and featured 208 competitors from 30 teams across 29 different nations and regions.
The students who won gold medals are Nguyen The Quan from Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted in Nghe An, Nguyen Cong Vinh from Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted in Bac Ninh, and Truong Duc Dung from the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences at Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
Silver medals were awarded to Ly Ba Khoi from the same Natural Sciences High School in Hanoi, Tran Le Thien Nhan from Quoc Hoc High School for the Gifted in Thua Thien Hue, and Phan Quang Triet from Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted in Nghe An.
Bronze medals were secured by Tran Trung Hieu from Quoc Hoc High School in Thua Thien Hue and Nguyen Ngoc Phuong Anh from Hanoi – Amsterdam High School for the Gifted.
This year’s results demonstrate a significant improvement over 2024, where Vietnam secured just 1 gold, 1 silver, and 6 bronze medals.
As part of the APhO format, contestants undertook two five-hour assessments: one theoretical and one practical. This year’s theoretical exam included topics on advanced physics applications, such as Earth’s axial precession and its climate impact, spin waves in quantum computing, and the greenhouse effect. The practical exam focused on electromagnetic induction and its uses in induction cooktops.
Vietnam ranked among the top five countries and regions for overall performance in this year’s competition.
