Tragic Loss: 34-Year-Old Bryant Michael Ogah’s Suicide After NYSC Completion
Bryant Michael Ogah, aged 34 and a recent participant in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) passing-out parade, has sadly taken his own life in Kaduna State.
Reports indicate that Ogah committed suicide in a local hotel after consuming a harmful substance believed to be a type of insecticide.
According to Arewa PUNCH, Bryant had been experiencing mental health struggles for nearly 12 years leading up to his death.
In an interview with Arewa PUNCH, his mother, Mrs. Ogah, expressed her heartbreak over her son’s decision to end his life, despite family efforts to support him through his difficult times.
She shared that as the eldest son, he had always aimed to provide for the family, but his ongoing mental health issues hindered his ability to do so.
Mrs. Ogah also mentioned, “Bryant’s suicide stemmed from his exhaustion with his health struggles, feeling unable to contribute to the family,” and added, “His mental state pushed him toward this tragic choice, as he felt he could neither help himself nor others.”
Despite their attempts to encourage him, she noted that he felt overwhelmed by his situation. “We urged him to stay strong and assured him that we valued his presence,” she explained.
On December 23, 2024, Ogah informed his family he would be visiting a friend, a plan that turned out to be a cover for his intentions.
Mrs. Ogah detailed, “Unbeknownst to us, he went to a hotel near the Television area of Kaduna South where he ultimately chose to end his life.”
She conveyed her sorrow, saying, “His condition caused him great embarrassment, and he desperately wanted to change the narrative for his family. Regrettably, he succumbed to his struggles.”
On that fateful morning, she remembered him getting ready and leaving home, mentioning his desire for a change of scenery. Instead of visiting a friend, he checked into a hotel.
A day later, when hotel staff found him unresponsive, they forced open the door to discover him still alive but in critical condition. He was rushed to a hospital but sadly passed away shortly after arrival.
Initially, the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, couldn’t confirm the incident but later acknowledged it, stating, “the command is conducting an investigation.”
