Recent remarks by Orji Uzor Kalu, Senator from Abia North, have drawn ridicule from aides of Atiku Abubakar, the former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Kalu suggested that President Bola Tinubu is driving through Abuja at night to gauge the struggles faced by citizens.

He described Tinubu as someone in touch with the realities of everyday life, asserting that the President recognizes the hardships Nigerians are enduring due to the struggling economy.

During a Thursday statement, the former governor of Abia noted: “The President is aware that Nigerians are suffering and hungry. He is a street person; he knows the street very well.”

He further stated: “Some nights, the President drives around to see what’s happening in Abuja. He uses one or two cars and observes the situation. He’s not a President who isolates himself.”

In response, Atiku’s spokesperson, Paul Ibe, humorously criticized Kalu on X, saying: “Yes, I saw Tinubu in Jabi garage last night. He came down from an armoured Keke NAPEP to buy kose and kunu. #TPain #ISightedTinubu #TalesByMoonlight.”

Atiku’s Special Assistant, Phrank Shaibu, added his thoughts: “Guess even the big shots need their local street snack fix! #TinubuInTheStreets #KekeRoyalty”
