Sheik Abubakar, the Chief Imam of Jos Central Mosque in Plateau State, has died.
The sad news was confirmed in a statement released by the cleric’s son, Bashir Lawal Adam.
Abubakar passed away at a private hospital in Jos following a short illness.
He was 80 years old at the time of his death and is survived by three wives, 14 children, and several grandchildren.
The Plateau State Publicity Secretary of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Sani Mudi, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, calling it a significant one for the local Muslim community.
Mudi described the late Sheikh Abubakar as an esteemed scholar, Islamic jurist, and a respected leader of the Muslim community, serving as Deputy Chief Imam since 2009 and later being appointed Chief Imam in 2015.
The funeral prayers for the revered cleric will take place on Friday morning.
