Gani Adams: 2023 Election "Worst in History" with System Mired in Distrust

Iba Gani Adams, the Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba land, has declared that the recently concluded elections in Nigeria are the worst in history, and that the entire system is plagued by distrust. He also criticized politicians for playing the ethnic card and not abiding by the rules of the electoral process. Adams called on all Yorubas, elders, monarchs, and socio-cultural groups to look beyond politics and strengthen their bond of unity.

At a virtual international conference titled “Decolonizing Yoruba land: Speak up, speak out”, Adams emphasized that the struggle for decolonization of ancestral land must be a collective effort. He urged the indigenes to “wake up from their slumber and take their pride of place among other races in the world”. Adams noted that civilization has slowed down the Yoruba’s glory, as their language, culture, and tradition have gone into extinction. He also blamed the political class for dividing the people along political lines and failing to play by the rules.

Regarding the general elections, Adams said that INEC and Prof. Mahmood Yakubu have been met with global condemnation for their failure to ensure a smooth process. He also mentioned that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) failed to transmit election results electronically, which betrayed the trust of Nigerians. Adams concluded by saying that INEC organized the worst election in the history of Nigeria and that the entire system is mired in distrust.
