Expressing hope for the country’s economic future, Doyin Okupe, a former Director-General of Obi/Datti Campaign Organization, believes that under the leadership of Tinubu, Nigeria will overcome its current economic challenges by next year.

The former media adviser to ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo highlighted his confidence in the government’s policies bringing about positive change despite the hardships faced by the nation.

Since President Tinubu assumed office from ex-president Buhari, Nigeria’s economy has dropped from being the top economy in Africa to the fourth position.

As reported by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in US Dollars has decreased from $477 billion in 2022 to $375 billion in 2023. The projection for the 2024 Fiscal Year places the country’s GDP at $253 billion.

According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), “Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 2.98% (year-on-year) in real terms in the first quarter of 2024.”

Although the GDP growth is higher than the 2.31% recorded in the first quarter of 2023, the NBS report indicates that it is lower than the 3.46% growth seen in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Okupe, a former Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to President Goodluck Jonathan, expressed his well wishes for Nigeria and its leaders, hoping for the best outcomes for his family and the citizens.

“I am not trying to build a nation. I am simply praying for Nigeria. I wish the Nation and its leaders success as that will translate to a better life for me, my family, and the Nigerian people.”

“I am not in a position of power, and I don’t serve in government. I am just a patriotic Christian, following the wisdom of God that encourages us to pray for our leaders and those in authority. I don’t need any formal role to make a positive impact,” said Doyin.
