A 30-year-old woman was taken into custody by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) after allegedly assaulting her 10-month-old daughter with a stick in an attempt to make the child crawl.
The ZRP issued a statement confirming the arrest made on Friday, October 11, 2024, following the viral dissemination of a distressing video depicting the event on social media.
“The ZRP has detained a 30-year-old woman for reportedly beating her baby (10 months) with a stick in Temberere Village, Zimunya, Mutare,” stated the police on Sunday.
“The incident was exposed after a shocking video circulated online, showing the mother aggressively assaulting the infant while instructing her to be quiet and compelling her to crawl.”
In response to the incident, child protection services have been alerted and are expected to assist the child and provide necessary interventions.
