In a statement, Nigerian lawyer Inibehe Effiong accused the Lagos police command of detaining content creator Okpe Kingsley Adegwu for carrying a placard with the message: “NIGERIANS SUFFERING IS TOO MUCH. TINUBU DO SOMETHING”. This incident occurred on a Sunday afternoon in Ikate, Lagos, and Adegwu has been held at the Lagos Police Command Headquarters since then.
Effiong claimed that the police plan to keep Adegwu in custody until the nationwide protest, starting on August 1, concludes.
‘’PROTEST: ILLEGAL ARREST ALERT
Reports indicate that Okpe Kingsley Adegwu, a comedian and content creator, was apprehended on a Sunday afternoon at Ikate, Elegushi gate for holding a placard with the words: “NIGERIANS SUFFERING IS TOO MUCH. TINUBU DO SOMETHING”.
He has been detained at the Lagos Police Command Headquarters since the incident. This development contradicts the Inspector General of Police’s statement that no peaceful protester had been arrested, branding such reports as “fake news” during a recent meeting.
Effiong demanded the immediate release of Adegwu, condemning the alleged plan to detain him until the end of the planned protests.
Effiong emphasized the illegality and unacceptability of this action and mentioned that legal representation has been sought for Adegwu at the Lagos State Police Command.
