The Plateau State government has reported a new outbreak of Lassa fever.
Dr. Cletus Shurkuk shared the details with journalists in Jos, indicating that there have been three confirmed cases, including two fatalities, while one patient is still receiving care.
He noted that the fatalities were in Kanam Local Government Area, with another case identified in Shendam.
The commissioner stated that the state is working closely with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control to contain the outbreak.
In response to the outbreak, a team was promptly dispatched to the affected areas for immediate evaluation and public awareness efforts. Shurkuk mentioned that all tracked contacts tested negative for the virus.
He urged the public to maintain proper environmental and personal hygiene to effectively reduce the risk of disease transmission.
