An irresponsible member of the Department of State Services (DSS) who fatally shot a private guard named Adesoji Adeosun in Oyo state has been apprehended by the Nigerian police.
The officer was taken into custody by the police after shooting the guard at a close range during an event at Ilaji Farm and Resort in the Amuloko area of Ibadan, the state’s capital on June 29.
Confirmation of the arrest was made by the spokesperson for the Oyo state Police Command, SP Adewale Osifeso to SaharaReporters on Thursday, stating, “Investigation is currently ongoing. Updates will follow in due course.”
Reports indicate that the officer violated the Resort’s policy by bringing firearms into the party hall.
The representative of the Oyo State Bodybuilders and Bouncers Association, Ilesanmi Osideko, had previously informed SaharaReporters about the tragic incident involving his colleague.
He mentioned, “A member of the Oyo State Bodybuilders and Bouncers Association was fatally shot by a DSS officer who was accompanying the owner of Ilaji Farm at the venue.
“I was informed that there was a directive prohibiting firearms and other weapons from entering the event hall which Mr. Soji, a bouncer, relayed to the DSS officer at the entrance, but he refused to comply.
“Tensions rose when the DSS officer readied his gun, leading to a chaotic situation where everyone fled. Mr. Soji was trapped by barriers and fell. The officer then approached and shot him at close range while he was on the ground.
“Despite being rushed to the hospital, Mr. Soji was pronounced dead. Upon realizing his actions, the DSS officer shot himself in the foot to create a false narrative.
“The owner of Ilaji Farm assisted in ensuring the officer was apprehended.
“The DSS officer has been taken into custody on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, and Mr. Soji’s remains have been transported to the morgue at Ona Ara Hospital.”
